About Us

Eastham Day Centre provides a variety of activities for the people we support including:

• Horticulture
• Volunteering work at Eastham Woods every Tuesday, supervised by a park ranger
• Target games
• Table Tennis
• Bowling inhouse and at Bromborough Bowl*
• Bingo*
• Arts and Crafts
• Pamper sessions
• Literacy & Numeracy (Book bags for PMLD, which is a story with objects that are used to help tell the story as a sensory experience.)
• Sing and sign using Makaton
• Daily exercises including chair thai chi, Mr Motivator, Joe Wicks etc
• Boxercise
• Football for PMLD
• Sensory arts and crafts
• Local community walks
• Cookery* every Friday where the people we support prepare their own meals
• Baking
• Independent living skills such as learning to use washing machine, dryer, maiden, iron clothes, dishes etc.
• Personal care/ hygiene improvement
• Health and wellbeing programme which involves NHS professionals
• Music Therapy
• Use of technology such as Tablets and Smart TV’s to enhance the current activity programme
• Money management
• Shopping
• Narrow boat Trips
• Chester Zoo trips

Latest News

April 2024

Tree Planting

A group of people we support, and staff joined a local tree planting session at Eastham Woods, as part of a wider project with Wirral Council. We are hoping for more opportunities like this in the future, and we will be putting a group forward to complete their John Muir Explorer Award this year.

Mencap Fun Day

On 22nd March, a group of people we support attended a Wirral Mencap fun-day. Everyone had a great day out enjoying taster sessions for including boxercise, line dancing and boccia.

Donkey Visit

We had a visit from Alwood Donkey Sanctuary on 26th March, which everyone really enjoyed.

Crystal Bear

On 27th we had a visit from Crystal Bear, a firm favourite at the centre. Crystal kindly brought Easter eggs for everyone. Thank you Crystal!  

Easter Celebrations

Everyone enjoyed the Easter celebrations at the centre, including an egg hunt, pin the tail on the rabbit and Easter card making. We also made a delicious chocolate cheesecake. 

Thank you to our Parents and Carers Association for helping us to purchase gifts for everyone who attends the centre.

Student Nurses

This month we said goodbye to three first year student nurses from Edgehill University. They enjoyed their time with us, and we wish them all well in the future.

Coffee Morning

We would like to thank the parents and carers who attended our last coffee morning. It was great to see everyone including some new faces. We will be arranging more coffee mornings as a quarterly event. 

Other Activities and News

We had a busy March with lots of activities:

• We joined in with storytelling activities for World Book Day on 7th March, learning about the 5 'W's - Who, What, Why, Where and When.
• People we support celebrated Mother's Day by designing and making cards for their loved ones.
• On 13th March we welcomed the Speak Up Be Heard meeting. People we support across our services attended to talk about various subjects.
• 14th March was International Mathematics Day and the people we support engaged in colour by numbers in our arts and crafts sessions.
• We had a great time celebrating St Patrick's Day with lots of activities including searching for shamrocks and some Irish dancing and music.

Stars of the Month

Lauren Blythe Corkhill started with the team back in September on an apprenticeship placement. She was due to leave the team this month, which has now been extended till June. In her short time with us she has made a huge impression on the people we support, bringing fun and excitement to several activities.
