Active Wirral
Informed by partner feedback, and that of all residents, sports clubs, community organisations and other key stakeholders that have taken part, the Wirral’s Tourism, Communities, Culture & Leisure Committee have reformed themselves as Active Wirral.
Most importantly, however, they've established and approved a five-year strategy to make sport and physical activity part of everyone’s everyday life.
The strategy consists of four main themes that Active Wirral believe are the priorities key to increasing people's activity levels
- Active People - Supporting the groups of people whose health is most at risk from prolonged inactivity
- Active Partnerships - Working with other organisations in the Wirral to deliver better health and social outcomes for people
- Active Spaces and Places - Making their places and spaces environments that'll help people to be more active.
- Active Facilities - Making their facilities accessable to everyone, no matter their level of mobility or budget.
The strategy is being enacted in conjunction with the Council’s own Economic Strategy, and their wider place regeneration aspirations to deliver over 21,000 new and affordable homes.
The strategy will play an active and effective role alongside all partners to shape and achieve “good growth” for Wirral; creating great places for people to live, work, learn and enjoy, with active travel solutions linked to walking and cycling, and ensuring Wirral’s infrastructure is sustainable for the future.
